Ethan Russo Joins True Terpenes Scientific Advisory Board 

PORTLAND, April, 2020 – Dr. Ethan Russo has joined the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) at True Terpenes, a leader in cannabis and terpene formulation research.

Dr. Russo is a medical doctor and cannabis research pioneer. He has written a number of papers that set the tone for the intellectual discussion on medical cannabis and its effects including Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects. This paper was an introduction to the entourage effect, terpenes and cannabis for many scientists, doctors and laypeople.

The entourage effect is the unified theory of how the compounds in cannabis and our bodies interact synergistically to form the therapeutic and subjective effects cannabis is known for. These interactions occur through a variety of bodily systems and compounds including and beyond cannabinoids including terpenes and other phytochemicals.

Dr. Russo was a Senior Medical Advisor for GW Pharmaceuticals research on cannabis therapies including Sativex and Epidiolex. Epidiolex is the first FDA approved botanically-derived cannabis medication.  

Despite the availability of a cannabis-derived FDA approved drug and ongoing medical research, there is still very little data confirming the mechanisms of the entourage effect. Dr. Russo and True Terpenes plan to investigate how cannabinoids, terpenes and other phytochemicals interact to create the unique effects each cultivar is known for.
